Day to day operations are undertaken by a small team in Ireland, and a team of 40 staff in Kenya.

Martin Ballantyne has been involved in Brighter Communities Worldwide since its inception. Martin is the CEO of Brighter Communities Worldwide. Martin has held multiple roles in Brighter Communities Worldwide since 2002 including Board Member, Project Leader for Volunteer Groups, Trainer of Volunteer Groups and Executive Director. Martin is passionate about people, community development and building capacity amongst communities. Martin spends vast amounts of time in Kenya building partnerships with communities, government ministries and other NGOS. Martin works very closely with the staff team in Ireland and in Kenya. Martin has vast experience in Financial Management, Accounting Business and Management through previous employment roles in both the non-profit and corporate sectors. | |
Rose Hennessy is Office Manager on the Brighter Communities Worldwide office in Midleton. Rose is a very experienced volunteer with Brighter Communities Worldwide and first began volunteering on the Harambee project in 2005. Rose has had many roles including Project Leader, Trainer, and Fundraiser. Rose has vast experience in volunteering, and working with volunteers. Rose took up her Office Manager position in October 2011. |

Damaris Chepkemboi joined Brighter Communities Worldwide as an intern in 2018. She is the Programme and Administration manager who holds a degree in Strategic Management. She is responsible for all programmes coordination, finance and office Administration. | |
Reuben Kimutai Koskei started as a volunteer with Brighter Communtities Worldwide in 2005 as a community mobiliser. Through the years he has been involved in all Community Health activities. He is the Community Liason Officer responsible for community mobilisation and partnerships. |
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team
Jackline Chepngeno joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2019 as a Field Officer for the Education Programme. She is currently a member of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team as a data officer. She has a degree in Community Health |
Health team
Caroline Chepngetich is the Community Health Coordinator. She is responsible for the Community Health Strategy and Community Water Programmes. She first got involved with Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2003 as Nurse Assistant in Ndubusat Medical Clinic. Since then she has studied community development, and is very experienced in implementing the Community Health Strategy across the region. | |
Kipkurui Thomas Bor volunteered with Brighter Communities Worldwide for a long time before joining Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2016 as a Field Officer for Health. He is now a Coordinator for Health and is responsible for planning and implementation of all Health activities in Kipkelion West, Soin/Sigowet & Belgut Subcounties. | |
Beatrice Wambia is a Field Officer for Community Health. She has a Diploma in Community Development and Health and supports the organistion in implementation of all Health activities. She joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2021. Beatrice has a passion for community Development. | |
Sonia Cheruto is a Field Officer for our Community Health Programme. Sonia first joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in March 2019 as a full time volunteer before joining the staff team in September same year. She is qualified in Environmental Health Sciences and also a qualified Public Health Officer. | |
Caren Chepkirui Cheruiyot is an Intern and she joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2021 after many years of volunteering with Brighter Communities Worldwide in her community. She is a member of the Health Team. She is passionate about community development and is a qualified Remote Emergency Care Instructor. | |
Margaret Chumo is an Intern and she joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2021 after many years of volunteering with Brighter Communities Worldwide in her commnity. Shadrack Kipngeno Cheruiyot is a Field Officer for Community Health. He has a Diploma in Community Development and Health and supports the organistion in implemetation of all Health activities. He joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2021. | |
Veronica Chelangat Chuma is an Intern and she joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2021 after many years of volunteering with Brighter Communities Worldwide in her community in different programmes, she was trained as a Community Health Volunteer in 2012 and is a member of the Health Team. She is passionate about community development and is a qualified Remote Emergency Care Instructor. |
Community Health Education team
Richard Kirui is the Community Health Education Coordinator. Richard first volunteered with Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2005 as part of the Harambee project. He is responsible for a number of community education programmes including Lifeskills, FGM/C Abandonment and Community Menstrual Hygiene Management. He has developed these programmes since their inception, and is very experienced in community development. | |
Carolyne Chepkorir is a Field Officer for our Menstrual Health Programme. She works in our Menstrual Health programme in schools (Girls for Girls) and in the community. She is a graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2018 as an intern and became a staff member in 2019. | |
Judith Chelangat is part of the Healthy Schools and Girls for Girls Programme Team. She is qualified in Nutrition and Dietetics. Judith joined the Brighter Communities Worldwide team as a volunteer in 2017. Judith spends most of her time in communities and schools breaking down barriers and taboos surrounding menstrual health. | |
Sheila Bore Cherotich is a Field Officer for our Life Skills Programme. Sheila joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in September 2019 as an Intern .She is a Public Administration and Political Science graduate of Karatina University. |
Schools Education team
Chelangat Caroline is the Schools Education Coordinator. She is responsible for all schools programmes including the Healthy Schools Programme, Girls for Girls, Education Bursaries and our Schools Linking Programme. Caroline first got involved with Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2005, when she worked in Ndubusat Medical Clinic. She is qualified in Nutrition and Social Work. |
Construction team
Julius Kipkoech is the Construction Coordinator, having joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2017 as a qualified Mason. He is a member of the construction team and Coordinates all construction activities for Brighter Communities Worldwide. | |
Alvis Kipngeno is a plumber and is part of Brighter Communities Worldwide construction team. He joined Brighter Communities Worldwide on a contract basis before being fully employed recently. |
Economic Empowerment team
Salim Koskei has been involved in Brighter Communities Worldwide since 2011 when he joined as part of the Security Team. Since then he has completed several courses including ICT and Bee Keeping. He is currently the Economic Empowerment Programme Coordinator. |
Logistics team
Everline Miruka is the Logistics Coordinator, responsible for all logistics and procurement in the Organisation. She joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2017 as volunteer and is a qualified Supplies Manager. | |
Benard Siele joined Brighter Communities Worldwide as a member of the security team in 2020. He has a Diploma in Supply chain management. He is the Stores Assistant at present, helping with logistics and procurement process. | |
John Sawe is a qualified driver and Store Keeper. John first volunteered with Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2002. John manages all supplies in Brighter Communities Worldwide Kenya, and ensures all programmes have the necessary materials when required. He has completed a course in computers, and is also a qualified Wilderness First Aider. | |
Benard Kipkoech Korir joined Brighter Communities Worldwide Security team as a reliever for several years, he is currently part of the logistics team and helps with logistics planning and security for the premises. | |
David Rop is is a member of the security team. He joined Brighter Communities Worldwide since 2013. He is also a qualified Wilderness First Aider. | |

Ndubusat Medical Clinic Staff
Hellen Akinyiis the Nurse in Charge in Ndubusat Clinic. She joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2018. She has a Diploma in Community Health Nursing and has wide experience working in various health institutions in Kenya. | |
Linner is a caretaker at Ndubusat Medical Clinic. She joined Brighter Communities Worldwide in 2018 and has also worked as a member of our campsite support team. | |
