A week in the life of a volunteer – Day 4

26 February 2015

Our volunteering projects offer people the chance to get involved in daily life in a rural Kenyan community. Unlike many other volunteering schemes, our two to three week placements give you an opportunity to work on more than one project. In a series of short blogs, we describe just some of the work you could be supporting here in Kenya.

A week in the life of a volunteerBuilding blocks for business

Volunteering in Kenya will give you an opportunity to share your knowledge and skills to help make business ideas become a reality. Employment opportunities in Londiani are limited, so most people run their own business to make a living. The ability to earn a living and make enough money to pay for school fees, food and clothes for a family is foremost in the minds of most of the people we work with. And we need your help to get these businesses off the ground.

As a volunteer you’ll get to spend some time with local people who are full of creative ideas to make money – from rearing chickens to running a shoe repair stand. But without basic business skills many of these businesses will fail, which is where our volunteers can help.

If you’ve got business experience then we’d love to hear from you, if you haven’t but love working with people and developing ideas, we will give you all the training you need before you go to help provide basic business advice.
