Well, not quite. But joining one of four teams climbing the highest mountain in each of the four provinces will be quite enough for most people. And this climb goes further: it will help raise funds for Friends of Londiani’s work in Kenya. We call it Footprints to Kenya – the Friends of Londiani Mountain Challenge. And we’d like you to join us on Saturday, 23rd August 2014.

In case you wondered, the four mountains are Carrauntoohil, Co. Kerry, the highest in Ireland at just short of 1040 metres; Slieve Donard, Co.Down, Northern Ireland’s highest at around 850 metres; Lugnaquilla, Co. Wicklow, the highest peak of the Wicklow Mountains range (about 925 metres); and Mweelrea Mountain, Co. Mayo, at a mere 800 metres. But don’t be misled by the relative smallness of the last mountain in particular; it’s known to be a tricky climb for the inexperienced. That’s why each of the four different teams doing the climbs will be supported by experienced guides.

A big bonus of this challenge – apart from the fundraising and fitness benefits – will come in the form of some amazing views that extend for a very long way and may include the Irish or Atlantic Sea. Equally amazing is the cause you will be supporting. You’re no doubt aware that Friends of Londiani’s work is strongly focused on communities and improving the lives of women in particular. In this case all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Friends of Londiani’s efforts to develop what we call Stronger Women, Stronger Communities in the Londiani region in Kenya.

There’s a sign-up fee of €50 per participant and, of course, you can encourage others to sponsor you or to support the event at its very own Mycharity page.
