Harambee 2009 – Week two in Londiani
Week 2 of the project continued with the same momentum from the first week.
A full Peer ED course was started with a class of 13 from Kahurura which was over seen by Eva, Fiona, Rachel and local Wilson.
The Water Tanks Project started out in Kahurura in the first week continued with 8 holes been dug and completed. The first layer of hardcore and concrete has been poured in 5 of the 8 holes to date all this work been carried out by the water team lead by Ciaran McMillan along with the bulldozer Francis O’Neill.
The new dorm in Bethel home is well under way and is now up to window level with a number of volunteers getting involved on various occasions during the week.
The Bore hole in Bethel home was opened up during the week by Catholic Diocese Nakuru water department (CDN) to test the pressure and quality of the water, with the initial feedback been positive.
The Health surveys continued with many villages and hinterlands been visited namely Kahurura, Lelsothet, Tegonot, Kiptenden, Londiani Town and Kipkoya. Work is soon to begin on analysing the data collected.
Work on the Polytechnic commenced on Thursday with the replacement of the main door head along with some floors been replaced and painting of two of the sewing rooms.
The HECA Clubs kicked off in Bethel primary and Londiani boys primary schools today with the distribution of the HECA Hygiene Kits. The volunteers gave up an hour of their evenings to read to the children of the Bethel Home.
A field day was also held on Friday in Lemotit where most of the team were engaged in the various stands set up in the day with over 3,000 people visiting.
Along with all that the team managed to fit in Drama Workshop, Bee Keeping workshop in conjunction with Baraka College, seed planting in the apery.
