Saturday, 6th February is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM -that stands for female genital mutilation. This year that day will focus on celebrating all that has been achieved so far to end FGM in many societies and how the Global Goals will support us to do more. FGM is one the worst kinds of violence against girls and women. Globally more than 125 million girls and women have undergone FGM and 30 million girls are at risk of being cut over the next decade. Girls and women around the world have suffered a lifetime of damage, sometimes even death, as a result of this practice.

Alternative Rite of Passage
Here in Kenya, Friends of Londiani is working with communities to deliver an Alternative Rite of Passage programme. Communities join together to celebrate girls stepping into adulthood through a programme that retains their traditions and customs, but stands against the practice of female circumcision. In 2015 more than 2,000 girls were trained in this programme – the highest number since it began in 2010. it's something we're really proud of.
