Change your life: go to the library!
08 May 2014
Are you in or near Cork? Are you interested in volunteer work? If your answer to both questions is ‘yes’, then we suggest that you check out something that could change your life: a library. Douglas library to be precise. As part of next week’s National Volunteering Week celebrations, Cork Volunteer Centre will be visiting Douglas to promote volunteering to individuals and non-profit organisations locally. This is partly, of course, a chance for Cork Volunteer Centre staff and volunteers to meet people who may not otherwise be in a position to access the service in person or through the internet. However, it’s also quite handy for those of you who would like to talk about volunteering directly with those in the know. Douglas library will play host to outreach events on Tuesday 13th May from 2pm - 5pm, on Wednesday from 2pm - 5pm and on Friday from 10am - 1pm. And you can pop in at any time when the library is open to see the Volunteer: Cork exhibition that continues in Douglas library throughout the week. National Volunteering Week isn’t an event that’s solely about us, but with planning well advanced for November Harambee this is also a good time to remind the adventurous among you that an exciting, challenging and entirely worthwhile volunteering opportunity awaits in Kenya to work alongside FOL on some marvellous development projects that have already done great things for communities in East Africa. You can find out more at http://www.friendsoflondiani.com/getinvolved.php?id=248. But even if going overseas doesn’t appeal we do hope you’ll assess a few other options, by going online to www.volunteercork.ie, ringing 021-4396510 or even visiting the Cork Volunteer Centre at 70 Shandon Street, Cork. Or going to Douglas library next week. And bring some friends. Who knows? A visit to the library could change their lives too!
