Mountain Challenge 2017
10 July 2017
It's that time of year again and we're looking for participants to take on our mountain challenge.
Join other adventures and walk across some of Ireland's most famous hills on Saturday 19 August 2017 to raise money for Brighter Communities Worldwide.
This year we're offering you two different options:
- climb Carrauntoohill – the highest mountain in Ireland at 1,038m (3,406 ft), or
- walk the Old Kenmare Road from Killarney to Kenmare.
Carrauntoohill
Carrauntoohill is a challenging climb but you will be led by experienced, qualified mountain leaders. Getting to the top is a memorable achievement: you will be rewarded by spectacular views on the way and awe-inspiring views from the top (with the co-operation of the weather!).

Old Kenmare Road
The Old Kenmare Road is part of the Kerry Way long distance trail; this section is approximately 16km or 10 miles walk through the uplands of Killarney National Park. You will be led along the route by experienced walkers through minor roads, paved paths, woodland trails, boardwalks, river stepping stones and mucky trails. The flora, fauna and landscapes on this walk are spectacular and take you on a journey you won’t forget.

The participant fee for the Mountain Challenge is €60 per person and we encourage all of our participants to get involved in fundraising, through sponsorship or donations. We can help you set up a Just Giving page or you can donate via our own at https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/brightercommunities/mountain-challenge-2017
By taking part you'll help rural communities in Kenya
Both challenges will raise funds to support rural communities in Kenya to live healthier lives, improve school sanitation, keep girls in school, fund water schemes and gain skills to increase household incomes.
If you're outside Ireland but would like to get involved then why not do a walk where you are? Let us know what you plan to do, share photographs with us and we’ll make it a worldwide event!
