A gathering — and a grand weekend out in Cork

22 March 2013
As we have already mentioned, the Friends of Londiani (FOL) gathering is more than just a chance to catch up with fellow FOL supporters from home and abroad, although meeting so many friends in one place is an opportunity we’re all looking forward to. You can buy tickets for friends and family (or encourage them to do so) in the knowledge that you will be enjoying yourself hugely at the same time as raising funds for health, education and water programmes in Kenya. You can also get to know more about the Irish context of this gathering by checking out the amazing and diverse events across the country throughout 2013 at www.thegatheringireland.com But those of us who live or work in Cork would respectfully suggest you not only join us for dinner, drinks, dancing and entertainment in the Clarion Hotel, Lapps Quay, Cork, on Saturday April 20th from 6.30pm but that you ‘do’ the city and county of Cork in some or all of its diversity. There’s music at the Opera House and drama at the Everyman Theatre, nature at the nearby Fota Wildlife Park, and Irish whiskey in the town where it (probably) originated, Midleton. There’s history at Blarney Castle, the Michael Collins Centre and the Cobh Heritage Centre. There’s a chance to relax in beautiful surroundings in Kinsale, Bantry, Crosshaven, Robert’s Cove or any number of lively seaside towns and charming seaside villages. Back in the city itself there’s the legendary and award-winning English Market, the magnificent St. Fin Barre's Cathedral, University College Cork and, in case we forget, famous old pubs like the Long Valley, An Bodhran, Clancy’s and Canty’s as well as famous new ones like The Franciscan Well Brewery. Enjoy! Just make sure you don’t miss the main event! Just in case you need reminding, the details are at: http://www.friendsoflondiani.com/getinvolved.php?id=295
