World Toilet Day
2.4 billion people do not have adequate sanitation. 1 billion people still defecate in the open. Poor sanitation increases the risk of disease and malnutrition, especially for women and children. Women and girls risk rape and abuse because they have no toilet that offers privacy.
World Toilet Day (19 November 2015) is a chance to focus on Global Goal 6 access to water & sanitation for all.
Our Healthy Schools programme ensures schools have water for handwashing and enough latrines in good condition for students to use. We also provide education and support to teach about the importance of good hygiene and sanitation. You can find out more about our work here>>
To mark the day our UK partner Friends of Kipkelion have launched a fundraising drive to raise £6,000 for a new block of 10 toilets in one of the schools in our healthy schools programme.
These will be ventilated pit latrines, carefully designed to keep out flies and built to last a lifetime so that hundreds of people will benefit. If you would like to add your support go to http://www.friendsofkipkelion.com
