Night of celebration at the kenya ball 2016
Friends, family, volunteers, supporters, donors and invited guests came together on Saturday 15th October for the Kenya Ball 2016. The ball is an important fundraising event and an opportunity to thank all those who’ve supported FOL’s work in Kenya.
Held in Cork, where Friends of Londiani’s Irish office is based, at the glamourous Fitzgeralds Vienna Woods Hotel , the atmosphere was warm and welcoming with everyone determined to celebrate and have fun.
We were delighted to welcome a number of distinguished guests. Including Cllr. Joe Kavanagh, Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork and two representatives from the Kenyan Embassy; Mrs. Immaculate Wambua, Minister Counsellor and Mrs. Patricia Muange, Second Secretary.
Other invited guests included Barbara Dunlea, Senior HR Business Partner Europe from Zenith Technology who were the main sponsors of the event; Vice- Chairperson of Midleton Chamber Jane Leonard and her husband John; Michael Deriaz, Chairperson, Friends of Kipkelion, a UK based partner to Friends of Londiani and Nicola Davies representing Kava Communications.
The evening was also an opportunity to give an update on the impact FOL is having in Kenya. Chief Executive Martin Ballantyne presented an update on the many programmes taking place to improve health, education, clean water, sanitation and provide economic empowerment. Anita Layden, the new Chair of the FOL Board, thanked everyone for their ongoing support and in particular the work of outgoing Chair Maria Kidney in the last 14 years.
The theme of the Kenya Ball focused on the Global Goals for Sustainable Development which aim by 2030 to end extreme poverty, inequality and climate change worldwide. Friends of Londiani’s work is closely aligned with these goals and the money raised from this event will be spent on projects that directly impact the lives of people in Kenya.
