Change the lives of others

24 July 2015

Nelson MandelaLast week the world marked Nelson Mandela Day (18 July); a day to not only celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela, but to also acknowledge his lifetime work and its impact upon today’s world.

The aim of world Nelson Mandela Day is to encourage the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s words of how recognising “individual power [can] make an imprint and help change the world…for the better”. Showing that anyone can make a difference if they believe that they can.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” – Nelson Mandela.

For the first time people in Ireland and Kenya will be walking together to help make that difference. On August 22nd Kenyan volunteers will walk the Friends of Londiani Sustainable Trekking route at the same time as Irish supporters complete our own Mountain Challenge.

To take part in the Mountain Challenge in Ireland, which includes Carrauntoohil, Croagh Patrick, Slieve Donard and Lugnaquilla, register your interest by emailing mountainchallenge@friendsoflondiani.com. Choose which mountain you want to climb and you will be supported by experienced guides throughout your trip, no matter what level of experience you have.

All proceeds from the walk will support Friends of Londiani’s community development work in Kenya and help to change the lives of others
