United Nations Summit

25 September 2015

Goals for a better future

Today marks one of most historical days of the last 10 years. World leaders are gathering in New York to formally adopt a new global framework that has the potential to radically change the world we live in. Ireland has played a key role in the process and Taoiseach Enda Kenny will deliver a statement on behalf of Ireland.

The United Nations summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda runs from 25 to 27 September 2015. Held in New York and convened as a high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly, more than 150 world leaders are expected to attend to formally adopt the ambitious new sustainable development agenda which will promote shared prosperity and well-being over the next 15 years.

Ahead of the summit, Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham and youth representatives unveiled an installation that brings the voices of children and young people to the heart of the United Nations. The new global goals bring a new opportunity to create a better future for children across the world.
