February 6th 2017 is International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
This year's theme is "Building a solid and interactive bridge between Africa and the world to accelerate ending FGM by 2030".

Since 2009 Brighter Communities Worldwide has been working in partnership with communities across Kenya to run an FGM/C Abandonment Programme.
This weekend in Londiani we met with our volunteer facilitators who implement the FGM/C programme across many communities. The overall aim of this programme is to transform the social convention of cutting girls and encourage the mass abandonment of the practice, replacing it with a safer culturally-appropriate alternative. These facilitators are incredible people who are committed to #NoFGM.

By December 2016 - 2,142 girls had graduated from the Alternative Rites of Passage in 44 communities.
